I will be making some tutorials but in the meantime here are a few ideas showing how one font can be changed to create a different look.

This particular font is very very similar to one on a popular machine's cartridge. I have not traced any images from the cartridge. The font I used is "cast iron " and it can be downloaded from dafont.com http://www.dafont.com/cast-iron.font

While I was in the process of testing this out and creating examples Kay at Cleversomeday posted this font and some others in the same style. So if you would like to play with some fonts, save yourself some time and visit Kay's site for some other great fonts. http://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2011 ... red-fonts/

A few adaptations - I would print and cut but they could also be paper piecing designs.

The next few show how the font can be further changed by adding a filter in Inkscape.

Yes, I saw Kay's post and was sorta intrigued. I'm putting it on my "to try" list for another day.

I can assure you it was coincidence. I saw the cartridge and knew I had a very similar font my computer at some stage. I went hunting at dafont, found it and started playing with ideas for print and cut projects. I then saw Kay's post, lol. I could have saved myself hours of searching. After I have finished my tutorials I will be visiting Kay's site to do the same with some other fonts for my own personal use.

Ah but Carolyn a topic can never ever be covered too much. Does the font cut into two different layers.

Suzan, the font when downloaded does not cut in different layers. The steps in the tutorial show how it can be changed and cut in layers. I am sure it could be applied to more fonts than the one I will be showing.
I am just stuck trying to explain the steps in written format and think this will have to be a video tute. I know in my head how to explain it but the pen is not co-operating and writes down hard to understand instructions, lol.
