How about posting the GIMP tutorials here for the time being. As you find tutorials just add to the topic. Here's one I found useful so far, there are a bunch of YouTube, some good, some not. GIMP Basics Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9up3Je0hyc

I think Gimp is a 'must' to go along with Inkscape projects. I jump back and forth often. Here is a site that I have found very useful. It is called Gimp Tricks. http://www.youtube.com/user/GIMPtricksThe presenter is very good. You might have to scroll through to find some easier ones, but even watching the more advanced ones is easy to follow and gives you insight to what can be done. There are so many videos giving lessons in Gimp today. And I can never fault those who try and envy their ability with the software that allows them to make a video. I could never do it. But so many of them leave you more confused after you watch. Gimp Tricks is a good one to save and come back to.

Oh dear.... so much to learn! My son keeps trying to get me to learn Gimp, but I seem to have enough trouble finding time for what I want to do with Inkscape!

Oh come one Laurieanne, what else are you doing....dishes, laundry? I'm finding it a real challenge as it took me almost a year to learn Inkscape and now all the ways are different. I'm not totally sold but making backgrounds with filters is sure easier and they save as .jpg nicely.
I did one today that I imported into Inkscape and cut out the letters for a thank you card.
I will share tomorrow maybe.
Happy you showed up!!@

Oh Papasue.... I have so many things I want to do and ideas that run around my head at night when I should be sleeping. lol I am currently just over half way through my latest job assignment and that is keeping me way too busy!.... if it just weren't for those pesky bills that need to be paid!
I'll be looking for you to inspire me so keep the ideas coming.

Here is a site with lots of Gimp tutorials and include ones suitable for beginners. http://www.youtube.com/user/GraphicDesignTutsThis channel also has Inkscape videos. I can't watch any at the moment due to slow internet. I am sure someone will tell me what I am missing, lol.

Carolyn, what a fun couple of ladies who take it slow and easy. I've been through most of them now If I could only remember what they did I'd be great.
I'm gonna keep on keeping on and hopefully will have a completed project soon.
thanks for the backup.
