Cupcake Challenge and Swap
« on: October 22, 2010, 04:40:05 PM »
Hi, Angela and I thought it was time for another swap. Instead of giving a topic, this time we are giving you a blank cupcake wrapper to use as a base for your design. The wrapper was drawn by Angela. We would like as many people as possible to participate and encourage beginners to give it a try.

The swap will run for two weeks and end at midnight on the 6th of November.
Create your design and upload a photo or screenshot in this section. Do not upload the svg file here.
I will create a new section for members to upload the svg, so other participants can download the files.

[Note: When the forum "changed hands" all the cupcake files were moved into Free SVG Files board.  To find them, go to that board and search "cupcake" and that will find them all for you  :wink1: ]

For any members who are new to using Inkscape you may find Pattern Along Path will be the easiest way to get your design to follow the shape of the wrapper. I have attached some paths that follow the contours of the wrapper to this post to help you get started.

edited. Angela has updated the cupcake wrapper and the path lines are included on the same file.

Not too sure the gingham was a good idea as the cut inevitably spoils the pattern.  I must try it with something like a small flower or even plain.

Here's my contribution.  I'd seen them go by but had never tried them either.  Probably because I don't bake.

Yes, you did! Thanks!  Nice to see it cuts without SCAL.

There are three things you need to have to cut pieces inside of a boundary piece like the wrapper.

o blue painter tape to hold the card stock down
o a wooden skewer to poke out the little holes
o figuring out how to cut the inside pieces before the outside shape.  There is a FIFO (First In First Out) thing that goes on in SCAL, so that the wrap shape cuts first causing lift problems. I don't know about other cutting software that does make cutting easier

Let us start a discussion on Inkscape topics to see if we can figure out the solution?  See you there?
