The Morgue File is a photography site with copyright free images. http://www.morguefile.com/  I have changed many of these images into cutting files. If you are new to tracing photo images, silhouette photos are pretty easy to convert.

Blue Vertigo is a great and lists many free sites for images, vector designs, fonts and many other topics. Scroll across the page to see all the listed categories and be prepared to lose many hours visiting the long list of sites.  http://www.bluevertigo.com.ar/

The following site has wonderful, free clipart:  "www.openclipart.org"  There are some really great SVGs there and they are all free.  Also, you can add to the site with your own vector drawings.  I have started a small collection there that you can take a look at.  Just type "laurianne" into the search box.

I know this is an old topic, but once I saw it I had to add my little bit to.

Yes, Morguefile is great.
OCL the open clipart Library is to, and the quality of the clips there just keeps getting better.
Plus you can find a few good filters that don't come standard with Inkscape just yet.

Another good site for reference images you can use for making just about anything you like is http://www.stockvault.net/
I expect most of the forum users know about it already, but new members might not.
