The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project will open its first official forum, on the Inkscape website, this August (2019). (Address/link will be provided at that time.) When that happens, new registrations will no longer be allowed in this forum and Inkscape support will be provided in the new forum. This forum will still be open for a while, so that existing topics can be finished, and existing users can have access to their contents. But all potential new members should register on the Inkscape website, and post their questions in the new forum, starting in August. If you have any questions or comments, you can post them here.

Since there haven't been any new messages for so long, and no one has ever replied to this message of mine I'm considering closing this forum entirely, in approx 6 months. If anyone has any comments about that, please feel free to post them.

Help! What am I doing wrong? - scallop edge
« on: January 23, 2013, 09:40:55 AM »
I have watched this video a few times, and seem to be doing something wrong, even though I follow along step by step.

Here is the video I am doing:

Here is what I am getting:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cutecee_mee/8407903819/

I duplicated the scallops to show you what it looks like first when I object to path then when I unite.

When I object to path to the new circles one circle shows as clear with a ring, and also the scallops overlap and cause a sections missing. When I unite them, the top left circle disappears. I really like the interpolate sub path method of making the scallops because it is easier to adjust how many circles I want.

Here is my step by step:
Create rectangle>path>object to path / then copy rectangle to clipboard
make small circle> duplicate>combine
Path>path editor> drop down to interpolate sub path
click on clipboard then click the "edit on canvas" image

I find how many circles I want around the scallop, when I am happy, I go to path to object, then unite. I get the image above.
Please help, thank you!

That is because your fill is set to Even/Odd rule.  Before you use Path/Union, select your scalloped shape.  Bring up the Fill/Stroke window (click on the button in the tool bar then select the funny shaped solid fill button in the upper right corner.

That will change the fill rule so that the overlapping areas will be solid.  HTH
