The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project will open its first official forum, on the Inkscape website, this August (2019). (Address/link will be provided at that time.) When that happens, new registrations will no longer be allowed in this forum and Inkscape support will be provided in the new forum. This forum will still be open for a while, so that existing topics can be finished, and existing users can have access to their contents. But all potential new members should register on the Inkscape website, and post their questions in the new forum, starting in August. If you have any questions or comments, you can post them here.

Since there haven't been any new messages for so long, and no one has ever replied to this message of mine I'm considering closing this forum entirely, in approx 6 months. If anyone has any comments about that, please feel free to post them.

« on: June 12, 2011, 03:11:44 AM »
Hello, I'm new to Inkscape, and I would like to know (indept) how to covert text to rhinestone pattern. I have been searching for days for this information, all the videos I have found don't go into great detail. Can someone help me PLEASE???? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hi and welcome Shontae,

Are you trying to apply rhinestones to a single line font or a standard font?

If you only want a single row of rhinestones, you need a single line font. There is an extension available that can be added to Inkscape for single line fonts and more information can be found on this post http://www.inkscapecuttingdesign.com/smf/index.php?topic=463.0 The two best fonts for rhinestone designs in the extension are Script 1-stroke and Sans 1-stroke.

Here is another post on single line fonts http://www.inkscapecuttingdesign.com/smf/index.php?topic=464.0

If you want a result like my second example any thick fonts installed on your computer can be used. My example was Arial Black.

Font selection is obviously the first part of creating a rhinestone design. The next step is to add the rhinestones. After a lot of trial and error in Inkscape I have found the best method is Scatter and there is a tutorial and video on this post. http://www.inkscapecuttingdesign.com/smf/index.php?topic=403.0
Now I know this can be confusing having to look at 3 different posts and trying to work it all out.
I did create a video a while ago about rhinestone designs with fonts. Unfortunately the sound was terrible.
As I am home alone tomorrow I will try to remake the video. Tonight I will start a tutorial specifically for rhinestone designs with fonts.

If you are having trouble with a specific project if you could post a screenshot of your project, we may be able to help out.

Hi, I have added a tutorial showing how to use the Hershey Text Extension to create rhinestone text designs. The information can be found here http://www.inkscapecuttingdesign.com/smf/index.php?topic=488.0 If this didn't help or you need any help give a holler.
