The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project will open its first official forum, on the Inkscape website, this August (2019). (Address/link will be provided at that time.) When that happens, new registrations will no longer be allowed in this forum and Inkscape support will be provided in the new forum. This forum will still be open for a while, so that existing topics can be finished, and existing users can have access to their contents. But all potential new members should register on the Inkscape website, and post their questions in the new forum, starting in August. If you have any questions or comments, you can post them here.

Although I've been planning to put this forum in read-only mode, at the time of this transition, unfortunately, my personal circumstances have changed, and I won't be able to host this forum much longer. If anyone is interested in taking it over, please contact me.

Inkscape 0.48?
« on: July 22, 2010, 11:19:15 AM »
Hi,

Has anyone been brave enough to download 0.48?  I know a lot of folks still using 0.46.

I'm really tempted in hopes that it fixes some of my problems with .47 but I've gotten used to it and all the features it has over 0.46.

I'll keep an eye on 0.48 and let you know when I get brave enough to try it.  But if you want to save the angst go ahead and get it and then YOU can let me know if it works.

I am going to wait until they release the final version of 0.48.  It doesn't look like there are major changes in 48, mostly improved node editing and fixing of bugs. :D

I am waiting this time as well. I am perfectly happy with 0.47.
If you do test it out, let us know what is new.

I am using it but when I go to Trace, the picture doesn't show up until I hit OK. If it isn't a good trace, I have to delete the image and start all over. Every thing I have made is showing up & cutting  ok in SCAL 2.

That is one of the bugs.

If you import an image it won't preview at all.
If you paste your image it will work until you close the trace box.    If you open the Trace box again, it's the same as what you have experienced.
If you import an image for tracing and then paste an image, it won't trace.

When you paste images in 0.48, they are automatically embedded, rather than a link to the file.  Also, I found that the 0.48 files won't work in SCAL1.  You can use Path/Union and it helps, but the files still don't import 100% correctly.

I like being able to use the node tool on more than one Path at a time, but it isn't worth the hassle with the trace and SCAL1.  I've gone back to 0.47.

I have to admit that I'm staying with Inkscape 0.47 for now and maybe wait a while for them to iron out the bugs that still effect the 0.48 version.

Having read the above I am wondering if I should have 0.48 or should I remove it and install 0.47? If so what order should I do it in?

Hi Ruth, If 0.48 is working for you, it should be fine.

Many people are now using 0.48 but any of us using Inkscape with Sign Cut have to keep using 0.47 until Sign Cut make their program compatible. So if you are using Inkscape with any other program except Sign Cut and it is working you don't have to change it.

If you do decide to change when you start installing another version, it will ask if you want to remove the previous version. If you say yes, the new install will overwrite the current version.
