The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project will open its first official forum, on the Inkscape website, this August (2019). (Address/link will be provided at that time.) When that happens, new registrations will no longer be allowed in this forum and Inkscape support will be provided in the new forum. This forum will still be open for a while, so that existing topics can be finished, and existing users can have access to their contents. But all potential new members should register on the Inkscape website, and post their questions in the new forum, starting in August. If you have any questions or comments, you can post them here.

Since there haven't been any new messages for so long, and no one has ever replied to this message of mine I'm considering closing this forum entirely, in approx 6 months. If anyone has any comments about that, please feel free to post them.

Google Docs! FYI
« on: March 13, 2011, 11:56:23 AM »
I hated the 4shared file upload/download process. I feel that these "services" are useful but with all the attached crap that comes with them I feel that even with the above average intelligence of my blog readers, they won't be able to navigate through the screen to actually GET my svg. (I've tried to get some recently and all the crud that is added is ridiculous, yes I know it's there way of advertising but it's getting scary to say download now.)

Just so you know that Google Docs is a free program that is easy to navigate through, safe and most importantly Clean.

I tried Google Docs ages ago for sharing files but could not work it out. I will give it another try and may be calling on you for assistance. I prefer the idea of Google Docs as I will have more control over my own files.

B,  I saw your post on SCAL forum and was going to answer but might as well do it here.

I use 4shared on my blog and was very happy with it until it "made" me use the desktop app to upload files.  I'm not changing as I did try some others and like them less. I find it very confusing and hard to deal with but I don't find downloading files from others using 4shared to be a problem.  Is your issue as a blog owner or as a downloader?  I, like you, want to make it easy for visitors to get the files I post and have not heard any problems with downloads except for a clitch last weekend where it all went wonky.

I use 4shared and box net. It depends on the mood I am in as to which one I use. If I post a few files on box.net and it gets downloaded hundreds of times and not a single person says thank you, the next freebie goes on 4 shared so they can wait before downloading. Don't get me wrong I don't do it for lots of thank you's but it does get annoying sometimes when people cannot spare a few seconds to acknowledge they got the file. They sure let me know if there is an error.

I have to admit that the google docs does look interesting and because I know that my inkscape pictorials helped alot of people, I may use google docs for some studio pictorials that I've done already.
