Can anyone offer any ideas, please.....
« on: February 03, 2012, 10:15:34 AM »
I design cutting files using version 0.48 and save them as inkscape svg. I have some friends who are trying to cut my files. They use inkscape 0.47 to open my files which are then exported to signcut and cut with a black cat cutter. The problem is that apparently all my designs try to cut twice. Svg files they have from other sources don't. I'm pretty much at a loss to know how to solve the problem. I tried to download a trial of signcut but it messed up my computer. I had trojan warnings that the computer quarantined, so the problems I had when I tried to open through it on my computer I have to assume were down to that and not a solution to the original problem.

As I see it the problem could be to do with using different versions of inkscape, or they could be to do with the svg format I save in, or it could be human error......

If anyone has come across anything like this before I'd be really grateful if you could let me know because it driving me nuts, especially as I am not familiar with signcut or black cat cutters!

(I tried upgrading their inkscape to 0.48 but I lost the export function. Opening the file manually confused them so much that I had to reinstall the older version but the problem was happening before that)

Thanks!!!!!

Hi rainbowannie

I design SVG files that can be cut from Inkscape using the Old Robomaster software for the Silhouette/Craft Robo users, and I was advised by people who use their SCAL, Signcut and MTC software that the SVG needs to be either cut using the Stroke line only or the Fill colour only; but they must not cut with both options because this will give them double lines when cutting....I think I've got that right..

Try this file here that is in both formats: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=818

Thanks, I'll give that a go. I know usually I save with fill and not stroke, but can that be altered from signcut or would I need to change how I save the original file?

Hi,

Usually for the Cougar you must have only one or the other but a file can contain both outlines and fill (just to confuse).  You need stroke only for perforated lines or partial cuts such as in pop-ups but I think you probably are already aware of that but it is easy for a stroke to also have a fill without it being obvious.   There have been reported problems with Signcut and version .48 so I still use .47 but I am afraid I don't exactly know what the problems were/are.

If you are happy to upload a file I am sure one of us will have a look at it.

Unfortunately for me, now that it looks like I have a solution in sight, my friends are away for a few weeks so I won't be able to try out your suggestions.

Its good to know (I think!) that there have been reported problems with Signcut and version .48, so at least I know its not just me.

I will definitely let you know how I get on with this, but it won't be until the beginning of March!

Thanks again.

I really appreciate being pointed in the right direction :D

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Its been a long wait for my friends to get back to their cutting machine but the brilliant news is that I left the fill and removed all the Inkscape  stroke settings and they are so happy that the files are now cutting perfectly.

Its been such a huge relief to solve a problem that wasn't even happening on my machine - and needless to say I make sure all my files are Signcut friendly now!

Thank you so much!!
