Inkscape, Silhouette and registation marks
« on: January 07, 2014, 01:13:59 PM »
Hi,

I've found a way to generate cuts from Inkscape SVG files thanks to Tux Plot utility but I'm not able to manage the registration marks.
Tux Plot converts SVG files to GPGL code that the Silhouette understands, but I'm still missing th GPGL command for the registration marks, I need your help on this topic folks.

Thanks.

Hi, I don't own a Silhouette but hopefully Angela or anyone else who owns a Silhouette will drop by shortly and help you out.

Thanks for your comment, I'm a bit afraid not finding a solution because the manufacturer refuses to support customers on this point.  :!:

You could purchase surecutsalot (SCAL) software that would provide reg marks. Search craftedge.com to learn all about it.

Come back and tell us if it works for you.

Here's another thread on Silhouette registration marks in Inkscape.  Maybe you can find something that might help there even though it's a few years old.  http://www.inkscapecuttingdesign.com/smf/index.php?topic=118.0

Sorry but I'm running Linux and this tool is for Win/Mac only.

Thanks for your input.

Hi,

I'm still working on this topic, but I refined my need.
I learned a little bit about the needed commands for activating the registration marks acquisition. But I'm stalled.
So could anyone send me a studio file he/she copied on the SD card for the silhouette?
The best would be to get one file with registration marks search and one without.

Thanks in advance.

I will try to contact Angela privately as she is our Silhouette guru. Her job keeps her busy so it is probably why she hasn't popped in to help.

As to the file, does it have to be from an SD card or can it just be from a file created in Studio. I don't own a Silhouette but I do have the software, so I could send you a file.

If a file direct from the program will do, let me know if you want one with an image, a simple set of shapes etc. It is late here in Australia and I have to go out first thing in the morning. I will check this post as soon as I get home to see if I can help with the file you are wanting.

Indeed I don't care both should be identical, but I think it's much easier to copy a file from the SD than to catch the print. Of course all files are welcome.

Thanks for your kindness Carolyn

I ended up being out all day and have only just managed to find time to save a few files. They are my own creations, so there are no copyright problems.

I am adding a print and cut file containing images and cutting lines. The other file is just cutting file. The original files were created in Inkscape. I imported them into Studio. The print and cut butterfly had to be drastically reduced in size to fit on the page so I doubt it would cut successfully.

I saved both files in the default Studio format and the SD card format. Until tonight I wasn't aware saving to SD changed the file format to .gsp

Remember I do not own a Silhouette, so the files have not been tested. Hopefully one of the Silhouette owners will drop by and be able to help you further.

Hi jrijri
I didn't realise that using an sd card would change the file format either caroline, I don't really know how to help you jrijri as I'm a windows PC user. I don't know if this software update for mac users will help you to use your cameo, but it came from the silhouette studio website: http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/softwa ... tte-studio or if all else fails then the ladies on this website may be able to help: http://www.craftforums.co.uk/cutting-files/

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Hello all,

I'm back on this very old topic. I'm testing the new release of TuxPlot for Linux operating systems.
The developer did a tremendous job for this release; the Silhouette protocol works perfectly and the registration marks are recognized. More TuxPlot 4.0 can implement Extension in Inkscape that provide you the tool for making the registration marks.

I enjoy it, you may find the software and training video at this page: http://www.securetech-ns.ca/camm-linux.html
