The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project will open its first official forum, on the Inkscape website, this August (2019). (Address/link will be provided at that time.) When that happens, new registrations will no longer be allowed in this forum and Inkscape support will be provided in the new forum. This forum will still be open for a while, so that existing topics can be finished, and existing users can have access to their contents. But all potential new members should register on the Inkscape website, and post their questions in the new forum, starting in August. If you have any questions or comments, you can post them here.

Since there haven't been any new messages for so long, and no one has ever replied to this message of mine I'm considering closing this forum entirely, in approx 6 months. If anyone has any comments about that, please feel free to post them.

New Challenge
« on: August 13, 2010, 08:04:34 PM »
Hi, is anyone interested in a swap?
I was thinking as we move into a new season soon we could have a swap based on the changes, such as autumn leaves or for Australians spring flowers. The challenge is flexible and can be anything spring or autumn related. It can be a title, one element or a full card.

Here are the rules.
Create your design and upload an image only. Do not post the svg file.
All members who participate will receive each others files. For example if 10 people join in, each person will receive all the files.
We will set up an area that will be password protected and participants will be given the password to download the other files.

Sounds like a great idea!  I like the challenges to help get the "creative juices flowing".

The same here. I often need a push to actually make a file and not just play with the software.
It was your pumpkins that actually gave me the idea.

Here is one to be starting with.  'Same old' I am afraid but they make such useful quick cards.  I can see the leaf embossed and decorated with beautiful autumn shades of pigment ink or coloured with something like Copic pens.

I have added a photo of the test card.  The leaf went through the Cuttlebug to give it some texture but sadly it does not show well in the photo - it is also 3D.  I used a photo of dried wood to print the card before cutting and a photo of gold leaf for the leaf itself.   Amazing what is available on the web for us to use.  The gold printing(not easy to see this)  and border was done with a Foil It foiling machine.

Hi Denise, no mailing of anything involved.
Each contestant will swap files, so if you join, you will get every file entered in the swap.
We will add a password protected post and each contestant will get the password to upload their file and download all the other files.
Time frame I will find out from Angela. As I have never run or entered a swap before I am clueless.

You all are inspiring me to try some new things.  I designed this from the image I posted earlier on the "Free SVG" page (that I probably shouldn't have submitted because it is an image... sorry about that).  Anyway, it all cut out pretty well except for the squiggly little thingies (I'm sure that's not a word).  They might have cut out if I had not used metallic paper, but they are pretty small.  I just drew them in with a gel pen.

I know this is probably not too original, but I am having fun with it because it's new to me!  Please feel free to send along suggestions because I want to learn.

I am sorry the pics are so large.  I tried to make them smaller but they looked distorted.  Hmmm.

Count me in too.  Now if the creative fairy will stop by I might have some inspiration to guide me.

Great idea.

Hi All,
Our first challenge will finish this weekend. There is still time to join and it can be just one design element. The final deadline will be the end of the day on Saturday 4th September 2010.

I have sent passwords to all people who have submitted a design, so if I missed anyone please let me know.

Angela and I will both be adding a file before the deadline as well. I think I will be the only person doing a file for Spring, unless a few other Aussies join in too.

Hi Butterfly,
When the clock on the forum strikes midnight this Saturday night.

Due to differences in time zones, midnight will be different for many people. Unfortunately my midnight is one of the first to roll around. I am the same and do everything just before a deadline, so I had better hurry up. The design is in my head and it just has to transfer to Inkscape.

Ok Folks

Sometimes my Mojo goes on holiday and I can't get anything to work for me, but this is what I came up with for now; I think the file is more suited as a topper tried to cut from card and it just wasn't working for me. So I used a stiff paper for the 1st example and Adhesive velvet for the 2nd example, and I just liked the idea of layering it on a holographic background card; you could call it weird!!!

Click on image for a closer look, and yes my scanner glass needed some dusting........  :)  ;)  :)

Ok Here is my little creation
As we are entering spring in Australia and our wildflower season is about to explode into colour I thought I would go with a native flowering gum :D

Cheers

Hi Jo, love the flowering gum. Did you use paper for the flower or is it something else?
