The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project will open its first official forum, on the Inkscape website, this August (2019). (Address/link will be provided at that time.) When that happens, new registrations will no longer be allowed in this forum and Inkscape support will be provided in the new forum. This forum will still be open for a while, so that existing topics can be finished, and existing users can have access to their contents. But all potential new members should register on the Inkscape website, and post their questions in the new forum, starting in August. If you have any questions or comments, you can post them here.

Although I've been planning to put this forum in read-only mode, at the time of this transition, unfortunately, my personal circumstances have changed, and I won't be able to host this forum much longer. If anyone is interested in taking it over, please contact me.

I've had 0.48 for about a week on my Mac and no problems at all.  It even cleaned up some of my issues of o.47.  YEAH.

I'll let you know what I find.

Hi, I was wondering in order to install the newest version 0.48 of inkscape, do I have to uninstall the older version?  Also,Susan i am trying to learn how to trace a design and turn it into a GSD file.  I am so lost at what I am trying to do. And someone told me that you are very good at this.  Do you think you can help me?  Thanks,Vicky

Vickie,

I'd be happy to help with tracing your file. Unfortunately I'm  leaving in the morning for several days.  Perhaps if you could post the image file (so long as it is not a copyright file)  Some will for sure help you. HeatherM is also very good at this.  Tracing a good image somewhat depends on what the file looks like.  There are 3 ways to trace to get the best results so a picture will help.

If you can't post the image then you can email it to me and I'll at least take a look today.

Oh, I do delete the old version of Ink from my Appliations file, just not to get them confused.  I keep the one in my download file just in case.

Hope to hear that all works out if I can't do it today.

Vicky,
When I installed 0.48 I let the install manager uninstall 0.47 before installing 0.48.  That way I kept all of my preferences and my modified default template.

I have found a couple of bugs with 0.48.  One is that when I tried to trace an imported image it didn't show a trace preview, and I tried using both the link and the embedded image.  I was having some problems with the Path boolean operations the other day too.  I managed to work around them, but I might go back to 0.47 if I keep finding issues since the improvements weren't significant.

As far as tracing an image, it all depends on what you are working with.

Thanks,Heather, I probably won't bother installing it either, then.  I was told that you are really good with tracing. I have a business card of a friend that is wanting me to do him a magnet to put on this truck.  . I am really new at this. If I email you a scan that I did of the card, do you think you could maybe turn it into a GSD file for me?  Thanks, Vicky
