The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project opened its first official forum on its website this month (August 2019). https://inkscape.org/forums/ In an effort to combine all the different forums into one, this forum will no longer be accepting new members or new messages. However, it will remain open for a little while, for existing members, to have access to their contents, if they need them.

Any potential new members should register on the new forum, and post their message there. There is a special board for questions about using Inkscape for cutting machines (of all kinds). (https://inkscape.org/forums/cutplot/)

If you have any questions or comments (and you're an existing member) you can post them here.

Although I've been planning to put this forum in read-only mode, at the time of this transition, unfortunately, my personal circumstances have changed, and I won't be able to host this forum much longer. I'm not sure about the time frame. It could be as soon as the end of 2019, or as long as a year from now. If anyone is interested in taking it over, please contact me.

Well I had to do a little play and on the side toolbar there are 2 new additions, 1 of the tool icons look like a spray can; and it definitely needs some playing with....Forgot to show what appears on the toolbar for altering the shapes etc.......

Two of the additions that I think will be most useful are editing multiple paths with node tool and joining more than two nodes.  These are both things that I wished I could do while working with Ink in the past.   :D

LOL. I've decided to totally give up with Illustrator.

Hey everyone, do you all have you the icons across the top on Inkscape 0.48? Mine are on the right hand side and are driving me crazy.

Carolyn,  my screen looks just the same, icons on top, tools on the right.

Angel, spray paint on yours looks just like mine,  still doing hmmmm about its use.

I've printe a bunch of stuff right out of it and am really liking it, saves going to Elements.  Still having some problems with what filters to do size tho and SCAL still isn't crazy about them but I'm getting by.

Did some playing with Clip (Carolyn you naught girl for bringing that up), but I did make some background paper today.  Drew the background with text, overlayed a rectangle and clipped.  Cool.  Not totally perfected yet as I still feel the need to simplify and that skewed the text some but it has possibilities after I play some more. If you've found a way to separate the "clip" from the master I'd like to know.  If I look after the clip at outline the whole original image is still there.  Working on that, also hard to make a cut outline around it.  Working with your tutorial to see if that will happen for me as well.

Will spend more time looking at the things Angela showed and see what happens.

I did try the veroni pattern but didn't know what to expect or do and Ink just went away for a long while and produced nothing.  So will play with that too.

Thanks all.

Hi Susan, Go back to where I have the video - clip set on this forum - [lost link]. As I have uploaded the second video and it is an entirely different method. The second video is the way I prefer to do background papers.

Typical since the video I have found out a few new things and hopefully will find some quiet time this week to remake the video. The city I am in at the moment has a huge air force and military base and there are helicopters going between the two all day long.

Thank You Technomum for being the sensible One and finding out that info for us, I thought that because I had a wide screen it just put the tool bars on the side so glad I can put it back to look more like the 0.47 version.

Perhaps I'm seeing better today or this is new.

When you create an object and go to rotate it via the selection tool the center point X appears.  I don't remember seeing this before.  I've seen it in some of Carolyn's videos but never on a plain object.  it does affect the way the object rotates and annoyed  me at first but I think it may be helpful.
Am I seeing something that was already there or is this NEW

Any ideas?

Paint Bucket

Me AGAIN...  it took Kay (firstcut) a year to convince me that using the Paint Bucket to quickly create colored separated paths instead of tracing was a GOOD THING and finally I got it and have used it sucessfully.

NOW however Ink 48 is going of into neverneverland on me and Ink hangs.

NOW WHAT AM I DOING OR NOT DOING?

Aren't you glad that you have such a dummy asking these dumb questions?  Please don't tell me I'm the only one this is happening to......ok go ahead I'm a big girl and can take it!

Hi Susan,

I have had the paint bucket crash Inkscape a few times and it is usually my fault. Have a look at Shrink / Grow. I find whenever I reinstall Inkscape the setting is very high and as soon as the number is decreased it behaves.

I never had any problems with paint bucket on 47.  Are you on 48?

Where do I find "shrink/grow"  do you mean using the magnifying glass?

Confused still.

I have added a screenshot. I am using both versions of Inkscape and the paint bucket has the same options in both versions.
I don't know why but my grow/shrink setting is often set at 1,000 and it causes Inkscape to crash. Hopefully this is your problem as it is easy to fix.

Susan,  I have never really used the paint bucket tool since it caused a lot of crashes with Ink 0.46/XP on my old laptop.  I don't know about 0.47 or 0.48.  Personally, I'm not a big fan of it.  I find that the paint bucket takes longer (at least for me), rounds corners more and at the same time gives rougher lines with more nodes, and is more likely to crash than tracing images.

To Heather, that was always my issue with Kay until I found specific uses for it that worked except as you say the rounding.

Heres' what I came up with following carolyn's instruction (isn't she a peach).

I'll play more with these settings both grow/shrink and threshold as I've never dealt with them before, it just worked.

Thanks to both of you and your patience with me.

I was working on a file request recently, and discovered that Ink48 doesn't work with SCAL1.  I've gone back to 0.47 since 0.48 isn't worth dealing with that problem.
