Custom dash
« on: July 30, 2018, 02:10:21 PM »
Hi,
I have a problem with a feature I can see but don't know how to use.

In Fill/Stroke settings there is an option to select predefined stroke patterns of dots/dashes etc.

At the bottom of the drop down is a Custom option.

Does anyone know how you define this please.  I've googled and searched tutorials to no avail..

I beleive I will have to define it in xml but don't know where

I want to create a pattern to cut mainly dashes with little gaps.  This is for fast cutting for bending card very easily where a set of fan folds will be glued together to create a thick card laminate, if that makes sense!?!?

Thanks in advance

Richard

Welcome to the forum!

Even though this topic is old:  http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2400  I have confirmed in a more recent topic:  https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?topic=529.0 that the process still works with 0.92.x.

However, as noted at the end of the 2nd link, and especially for your purpose, you may want to use Pattern Along Path or the Scatter extension, instead.  I guess if you want to be able to use the same custom dash pattern in the future, you might as well code it into the dashes menu.  But if it's a one time thing, PAP or Scatter might be easier, or even just draw the pattern as a series of subpaths.
