The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project will open its first official forum, on the Inkscape website, this August (2019). (Address/link will be provided at that time.) When that happens, new registrations will no longer be allowed in this forum and Inkscape support will be provided in the new forum. This forum will still be open for a while, so that existing topics can be finished, and existing users can have access to their contents. But all potential new members should register on the Inkscape website, and post their questions in the new forum, starting in August. If you have any questions or comments, you can post them here.

Although I've been planning to put this forum in read-only mode, at the time of this transition, unfortunately, my personal circumstances have changed, and I won't be able to host this forum much longer. If anyone is interested in taking it over, please contact me.

Need Tutorial for Envelope Deformation
« on: April 05, 2011, 09:14:27 AM »
Hi,

I've been searching for an explanation/instructions for using Envelope Deformation tools.

I've watched the ScrappyDew's tut and can manually make the text bulge/warp using the node tool but there are other options I can't figure out like path/paste path and link to path elude me.  I've really looked hard to find an explanation.

Here's a link to the video in case you've missed it.

Thanks in advance for any help

I can't watch the video due to my lousy internet connection. I gave up on bend and envelope deformation ages ago as I have other programs that do it so much easier. Maybe some other members have had some success and can help with this.

The few times I have wanted to experiment with envelope in Inkscape I access it the other way Extensions>Modify Path>Envelope. I apply path>union to the text so it is an object and not grouped and it must be the lower object. In older version it had to contain 4 nodes only but newer versions seem to allow ovals etc. It may be worth experimenting with but I do find I get some strange results which I am sure is user error.

Thanks Carolyn for the quick reply.  I'll keep beating my head against the Envelop Deformation until I figure out those extra options.

Thanks also for the suggestion about MS but I don't use MicroSoft for anything I don't have to but if I get desperate I might take a look.

Ciao,
