Hershey Single Line Font
« on: May 24, 2011, 03:06:59 AM »
In February I posted on my blog about the Hershey Extension for Inkscape. I am transferring all the information here to help anyone looking for single line fonts.

First of all go to this website to download the extension http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/hershey . Follow the instructions to install to extension. The instructions are very easy to follow.

Some of the fonts are excellent for rhinestone designs. A few of the fonts do have internal lines but would look good for engraving or using a pen in you cutter. Below are screenshots of each font available in the Hershey Text extension. Click on any image for a larger view.

I have tested these fonts and the single line ones work well for rhinestone designs without any further work. I did find I had to use simplify and further tidy up the fonts to make them neat enough to use a pen in my cutter as I like very smooth lines. I am lazy and do not want to adjust the fonts everytime I want a new word, so I have tidied up the two I think I will use the most Script 1 - stroke and Sans 1 - stroke as shown below.

The following fonts, Sans 1-stroke,  Script 1-stroke (alt), Greek 1, and Meteorology are single line fonts.

The next list of fonts are a mix of double and single line.
Math (lower), Math (upper), Symbolic and Markers.
Script 1-stroke should also be in this list as the numbers have double lines.

Here is a You Tube video showing how it can be used for creating a rhinestone design. I haven't re-edited the video yet and it will mention a blog. Don't waste your time visiting the blog as it is now closed.

It was watching this video on Youtube that eventually directed me to this forum, Carolyn. Thank you so much for a totally brilliant tutorial, and for going to all the trouble of showing us what these fonts look like.

I am a totall newbie where Inkscape is concerned but know I'm going to learn loads on here.

Hi again, thank you for the compliment.

I noticed via email you commented on the video. I am unable to answer as I have trouble accessing my You Tube account. Silly me years ago made a new email account to get the name Cutting Time and I can never remember the name of my email account. Luckily I set up re-direct so I do get the messages but I cannot log on to that You Tube account to comment or add new videos. I think with eCAL and my eclips that I can do this! I will try it and let you know,
Something's are just before their time and this may be the perfect example.
When will you get a eclips?

When I feel like driving to the wholesalers. We are having a heatwave and the thought of visiting a warehouse is not very tempting at the moment. I do have the software. I also need to find out if the machines they have in stock are compatible with Ecal. Didn't I read somewhere that you can only use it with second generation machines?
