The Future of this Forum:

The Inkscape Project opened its first official forum on its website this month (August 2019). https://inkscape.org/forums/ In an effort to combine all the different forums into one, this forum will no longer be accepting new members or new messages. However, it will remain open for a little while, for existing members, to have access to their contents, if they need them.

Any potential new members should register on the new forum, and post their message there. There is a special board for questions about using Inkscape for cutting machines (of all kinds). (https://inkscape.org/forums/cutplot/)

If you have any questions or comments (and you're an existing member) you can post them here.

Although I've been planning to put this forum in read-only mode, at the time of this transition, unfortunately, my personal circumstances have changed, and I won't be able to host this forum much longer. I'm not sure about the time frame. It could be as soon as the end of 2019, or as long as a year from now. If anyone is interested in taking it over, please contact me.

Spinner Ornaments
« on: December 09, 2011, 05:37:54 AM »
I know there are quiet a few ways these can be created. I am only showing one way here.

A diagram showing how to fold the spinner after cutting it out.
LOL I have just noticed I must have move the spinner on my screen before taking the screenshot as the circle to be cut out at the top is not in the correct place.   I will try to take a better screenshot when I get some spare time. In the meantime it is the red and blue marked areas that are important.

Here is an alternative for the centre feature. It is how I created the spinner I added to the free files section.

Here is another version. I found when this style of design was cut out it seems to have more movement and has of a spiral effect. Follow the first basic tutorial and make the changes after creating the basic design.

I have a problem with files that are not symmetrical and I didn't like the different width in the outer and inner pieces. If you decide to create your own spinners use the design style you prefer.

I DID it, well I need help from DH to figure out how to do the fold easily.  I'm spatially/geometically challenged and even with MR Math explaining right angles etc it took me until the third one before I could fold and distribute properly.  I hung 4 of them on my tall wine rack where we have all the Christmas cards displayed.  Very, very nice.

Thanks Carolyn.

Susan, I have added a screenshot showing how to fold the spinners at the end of the first post. You are not the only one who had problems and I have quiet a few messy ones sitting on my desk. This tutorial was created by trial and error and about 4 sheets of cardstock.

Okay, where are the photos of your finished projects? Did you design your own and what shape did you use? I found a Christmas tree shape does not work   I am sure I will find many other shapes that do not work before I finish playing around.

Oooh, another fun project. So many ideas, so little time (to eat, sleep, do housework, blah, blah, blah...).

Must play in Inkscape...
