Valentine Card for my Hubby
« on: February 20, 2012, 03:20:57 PM »
Last year I took part in a Daisytrail digital layout challenge for Valentine's day and created this layout:

Ever since I did it, I have wanted to make it "for real" so decided to do it for my hubby for a Valentine's card this year. This is the result:

http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/rr328/shoshiplatypus/Hand-Made%20Cards/Valentine%20Card%202012/07FinishedCard.png

I designed the hearts in Inkscape, and cut 3 squares in different shades of pink and red card and cut heart apertures in them. The background was the original digital background printed on ordinary paper. The small heart I designed in Inkscape, using one of Carolyn's helpful tutorials - Scatter Project (thanks Carolyn!):

to make the looped scallop edging, and I also added a stencil cut word "Hugs". I created a shadow layer in gold mirror card so that it would show through the border and text.

I already had a collection of flowers in my stash, that I had made from Penny Duncan's free svg files a while back, cut with the Cricut I was then using, before I got Sheba, my Black Cat Cougar machine. I attached these, with the feathers and bows, with hot glue.

The layers of card were separated by a double layer of foam tape, to give the dimensional effect. The edges were very ugly, so I covered them with some pink ribbon, using double sided tape. The final touch was to add some hearts on strips of acetate, to make them appear floating above the surface of the card, and a little metal charm "made with love" attached to the top heart. The whole thing was matted and layered onto more gold mirror card and dark red cardstock. The finished card measures 8 inches square.

I hope you like it! I have put it in the gallery, and if you want to see more photos of how it was done, it's on my blog.

Very pretty. I like the effect created by using different sized heart apertures.
